Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Whether it’s part time activity or a professional blogging concern, the ultimate desire of the blogger is to have maximum readers. It takes enough time for bloggers to create unique content. Whether it’s the labor of love or monetizing the blog, the blogger need visitors. The quality content which is the result of an effort may go useless if it’s left unread. The only way to increase the visitors is to make your blog visible to major search engines. Reading SEO articles and e books can make a difference for you if they’re not too long! After reading a list of such articles the only thing I understood is that SEO is not a piece of cake, it needs you to be fully involve in it and only then you’ll be able to link some of the concepts, strategies and methods. Not making it a too long post, I’ll sum up some guidelines to make a blog visible to the search engines. These guidelines can be categorized as DOs and DONTs.

Let’s start with DOs:

DOs side includes your part of efforts at first, they are as follows

  1. Never compromise on the quality of your content.
  2. Use the keywords matching to the theme of your blog, do not bomb the posts with irrelevant keywords.
  3. Write freestyle; what you want to write, and what you think your readers are interested in.
  4. While planning to write a blogpost, place yourself in readers’ shoes and think the topics he’e interested in and will love to google about.
  5. The most importanr fact one needs to be aware of while being a blogger is that Search Engines robots are always in search of updated blog content, so update your blog atleast twice a week. If you’re done with the above mentioned efforts, keep other things on machine.

Second part of DOs is a bit technical, but none too difficult to understand. Here goes an outline:

  1. Let the Search Engines crawler crawl your blog at more fater rate, this can be done by keeping a robots.txt file in you domain or sub domain.
  2. Putting sitemap in XML or txt together with the robots.txt can be a better option. This helps the Search engine crawling not only faster but also regular.
  3. Visiting other blogs of the same nature and placing comments there, linking back to your own blog brings quality traffic to your blog. The people who visit your blog from the such links are certain readers, and quality content on your blog can make them a permanent one.

Let’s have an overview of DONTs now.

  1. Do not ever copy the content from any other website or blog, this will let the Search Engine to send to back in the Search Results.
  2. Linking is good, but always keep in mind while building links that the websites or blogs you’re going to link are related to your blogging criteria. Search Engines don not consider the irrelevant links and identify them as artificial ones.
  3. Avoid Java Scripts in your blog till the possible extent. Use of HTML and PHP is recommended by most of the SEO experts.
  4. It’s also an issue that Search engines’ crawling is not that efective in framed pages as it’s in non framed ones, so do not use frames on your blog.
